HD Upconverter

The QUC-801i/V/K cards are high-quality SDI to HD-SDI upconverters. These compact upconverters can be used for multiple applications, including upconverting a station main feed for compliance, and converting SD cameras and incoming feeds for mobile trucks. Post-production houses can use the video only version, the QUC-801i/V, as they process audio separately. Popular and custom aspect ratios can be selected; these settings can be saved in user presets and recalled by software or GPI. Audio, time code, and CC can be extracted, delayed, processed or re-inserted into the HD-SDI. The upconverter comprises a single Imaging card, and this provides both flexibility and density. Up to 4 cards can be used in the new Quartet 2 (1 R.U. frame) or up to 16 cards in a Symphonie (4 R.U. frame).

Upconversion for DTV compliance

The QUC-801i can be used to upconvert the main feed of the localprogramming going into an MPEG encoder. This gives the user manyadvantages by combining the following features into one card:

  • Video Upconversion using adaptive de-interlacing andultra-low ringing
  • MPEG pre-processing filters provide maximum qualityfrom encoding to decoding
  • Converts all 4 groups of audio from SD to HD
  • Converts Closed Caption as well as Time Code
  • Built-in frame synchronizer

  • Mobile production trucks

    The QUC-801i card offers a lot of flexibility for mobile truckoperators. With a built-in frame synchronizer and embedded audioprocessing, it can be used for multiple applications including incomingSD feeds, SD cameras, SD CGs, and upconverting SD to any AUX bus or VTR.

    The QUC-801i's design allows up to 4 channels in the 1RU Quartet 2frame, or for greater density, up to 16 channels in the 4RU Symphonieframe. The QUC-801i can be combined with other Imaging Series modules,including the frame sync, downconverter, decoder and the new XVP-801iuniversal video processor/cross converter.

    Upconverting a character generator

    The QUC-801i cards are available in a special bundle configuration forupconverting an SD character generator. The bundle comprises two cards:one upconverts the FILL signal and the other the KEY.

    The QUC-801i's video processing uses 3D adaptive de-interlacing andadaptive anti-ringing to provide cleaner edges. Edge sharpening iscombined with detail enhancement to improve the keying of a CG signal.
